The True Story of a Blind Man, His Dog and
the Triumph of Trust
the Triumph of Trust
As was the case with many Americans, Michael Hingson's life changed dramatically on September 11, 2001. He and his Guide Dog "Roselle" were among those working in the World Trade Center that day, experiencing the terrorist attacks first hand. Through a remarkable demonstration of trust and teamwork, Michael and Roselle escaped from the 78th floor of Tower One moments before it collapsed.
As a WTC survivor and Guide Dog user, Michael was thrust into the International limelight. He and Roselle have since become well-known representatives of the strength of the human/animal bond, as well as the lifeaffirming power of trust and teamwork. “Thunder Dog” captures the drama of that tragic day and also Mr. HIngson’s years in Irvine!
We are excited to have Michael Hingson, former Irvine resident and UCI graduate deliver the 2013 keynote address. Michael earned his master's degree in physics from the University of California at Irvine and is a lifetime member of the Physics Honors Society, Sigma Pi Sigma. Michael is an authority on Assistive Technology and an advocate for empowering people with varying abilities. He teaches organizations how to move from a corporate culture of “diversity” to “inclusion” which draws upon our strengths rather than our differences.
